Early Access Games are the pariah of video games, maybe second only to NFT games. They are mostly scoffed at, and deservingly so. This trauma response harkens back to the Kickstarter (KS) boom when a substantial amount of promised games ended up as scams. Those Kickstarter projects which were eventually released more often than not ended up like Mighty No. 9. In short, only a few KS projects were worth the wait. The same could be said about early access games which was made available on Steam back in March 2013.
So why choose to review Early Access Games?
First, let us define what kind of Early Access Games we cover.
What are Early Access Games
RektX.com focuses on Early Access Games that are still in active development, whether in beta or alpha stages. We do not cover that species of early access games where players can unlock access to games earlier than their launch dates as an incentive for pre-ordering or splurging with the deluxe editions. What we cover are early access games in the traditional sense: early access games that are made available for purchase to, ideally, gather some feedback to improve the game.
Early access games are often overlooked by mainstream gaming publications, which typically cover them only at the start of availability in early access or upon their final release, and nothing, not a bleep, in between. Fortunately, we track the progress throughout development (or abandonment), ensuring players stay informed of the current state of future games.
Why Choose Early Access Games?
Video game development often follows trends. While this isn’t inherently a bad thing, it can become whimsical when the majority of released games belong to the same genre. Early access game developers usually focus on unloved genres. Until one of these games explodes in popularity, a great example would be PUBG which ushered in crazed release cycles of battle royal games, mainstream publishers are typically unwilling to take the risk of developing such titles. This leaves indie developers as the primary innovators in these neglected genres. Even developers with big publishers rely on the early access model.

Mission, Vision, and Goal
- Our Mission is to provide honest reviews and up-to-date news of early-access games available on Steam.
- Our Vision is to become the DelistedGames.com of Early Access Games. We also aim to purchase the domain name earlyaccessgames.com which is prohibitively costly as of the moment.
- Our Goals for the last quarter of 2024:
- Put up the pages of the first Early Access Games on Steam;
- Publish reviews of early access games once a week; and
- Set up a mailing list, a Steam curator group, a TikTok account, and a YouTube channel.
